As part of his ongoing self-promotion, Scott Norman has postured himself as a successful inventor, one who wants to share his "good fortune" with others.
The following statement appears on MMG's website, under a tab entitled "History in the Making" (the "he" is Norman, presumably writing about himself):
After managing hundreds of accounts and maintaining a successful track record, he was fortunate to have been blessed with an invention of his own. After seeing the windfall of royalties that could be generated as a long-term annuity, he was determined to build an entire portfolio of products and technologies with long term financial success in mind.
So what did Norman patent? It's called the RipClean Hairbrush, US Patent number 6,021,542. More to the point, it is a "self-cleaning" hairbrush, one wherein the user cleans the brush of accumulated hair by pulling up on a sheet of paper positioned at the base of the bristles.
If you read the statement above you might get the impression that Mr. Norman has been "blessed" with a "windfall of royalties" from his invention, but that is not exactly the case. By Mr. Norman's own admission there is absolutely no commercial interest in the product whatsoever, and it has neither been produced nor does it earn him any money. Apparently consumers buy hair brushes for reasons other than self cleaning, and are content with simply dragging a comb through the bristles when they want to remove the accumulated hair.
It is the only thing Norman has ever patented and it forms the basis for all of the claims you see in MMG literature about being "successful patent owners" and so on. In reality it's just another dead, meaningless patent among hundreds of thousands of dead, meaningless patents.
So if you're considering doing business with MMG you might want to think it over a bit, just on the basis of how Norman handles and presents his own non-successes. And catch the following line, which appears on the MMG web site:
Remember our motto: "If MMG can't secure a placement, no one can!"
Please one more post about that.I wonder how you got so good. This is really a fascinating blog, lots of stuff that I can get into. One thing I just want to say is that your Blog is so perfect
